- Summary
- "Old Testament stories related in the form of a conversation between a mother and her children. "I would earnestly request parents and teachers not merely to place the little volume in the hands of children as a prettily-illustrated story-book, but to read it with them, prepared to answer questions and to solve difficulties. Sunday books should supplement, not take the place of, oral instruction."--Preface, p. [v]-vi, signed "A.L.O.E." By Charlotte Maria Tucker. Thomas Nelson & Sons was located at 42 Bleecker St., New York, between 1870 and at least 1876. Copy in hand bears an inscription dated 1876. "Simmons & Botten, printers, Shoe Lane, E.C."--colophon, p., 201. Plates printed in colored ink by "J.F. Shaw & Co., Paternoster Row."--frontispiece plate. Last page blank. In blue cloth. Plates signed by "Leighton, Bros." (engraver?). Third plate signed, "AW" (illustrator?). Textual wood engravings variously signed by "RR" (ill. p. 5), C.W.
