- Summary
- Norman Haire (1892-1952) was an Australian sexologist and medical practitioner. After studying and beginning his career in Australia, he moved to London in 1919 and worked as the house surgeon at the Hampstead General and North West London Hospital until the end of the following year. Also, in 1920 Haire attended a meeting of the Malthusian League an organization renowned for its early advocation of birth control and contraceptive methods. Haire had an existing interest in obstetrics and gynaecology having previously worked at the Royal Hospital for Women in Paddington, Sydney, thus when the League founded the Walworth Women's Welfare Centre one of the earliest birth control clinics in Britain he was appointed medical officer-in-charge.
