- Summary
- The effect of gamma radiation on natural rubber dissolved in carbon tetrachloride or monochlorobenzene was studied. As a result of the gamma irradiations hydrochloric rubber was obtained. Energies released by the radiation source, approximately 10/sup 18/ to 10/sup 19/ ev, were sufficient to bond the dissolved rubber. With these energies the reaction proceeds quantitatively to the formation of bonded hydrochloric rubber, which can not be obtained by any chemical method. (tr-auth)
