BS>A summary is presented of studies on the tracer chemistry of polonium. The formation and composition of polonium dithizonate, polonium diethyldithiocarbamate, and polonium hydroxyluinolate are reported. The volatility of polonium compounds formed with various organic regents was investigated. A method for the solvent extraction of polonium with isopropyl ether from hydrochloric acid solutions is given. It was confirmed that a carrier- free separation of Po/sup 210/, Pb/sup 210/, and Bi/sup 210/ could be performed by ion exchange using hydrochloric acid and nitric acid as elutriants. A procedure for the distillation separation of Po/sup 210/ and Bi/sup 210/ is given. (J.S.R.)
