Summary:

An expression for the diffusion flux for a binary mixture (in the absence of external forces) was derived from the conservation laws and the principles of irreversible thermodynamics. The results are found to be in exact agreement with Chapman & Cowling's derivation. Secondly, a tabulation was made of experimental diffusion constants from the literature, and expressions for D/ sub 12/ and alpha /sub 12/ from the general theory. (auth)
