An instrument using a counter sensitive to the x rays from Pu/sup 239/ was devised for the detection of Pu in wounds in cases where alpha counting is impracticable. A count tate equal to normal background is produced by 0.002 microcuries of Pu at the surface of a wound or by 0.006 microcuries at 4 millimeters below the surface. (auth)
