The characteristics of the inelastic interactions that were found in G-5 emulsion exposed in diffracted proton beam from Brookhaven AGS machine were studied. The interaction mean free path of the proton beam in emuision is lambda /sub alpha / = (37.6 plus or minus 1.3) cm which corresponds to the absorption coefficient of nuclear matter K = 2.75 x 10/sup 12/ cm/sup -1/ and the imaginary part of the complex potential of the simple optical model of the nucleus is computed to be V/sub im/ = 42.0 Mev.
