- Summary:
- Dissociation pressure isotherms have been obtained for the Ho-H2, Er-H2, Tm-H2 and Lu-H2 systems. Plateau dissociation pressures have also been determined for Pr-H2, Tb-H2, Dy-H2 and the deuterides of all these metals plus yttrium. The results show that the stability of the rare earth dihydrides increases to a peak at Dy-Ho-Er and thereafter decreases again to Lu. The strength of the metal hydrogen bond varies with atomic number in the same manner, as indicated by the changes in the heat and entropy of formation.
