Thesis submitted to Paris Universite'. Developments for gas-lubricated bearings are discussed. The study of how the fluid flim behaves compared to what one can expect is discussed. Various devices are described which have allowed us to go up to peripheral velocity greater than 400 m/s, leadirg to rotational speed of several thousand revolutions per second. This is obtained by using an automatic setting for the distance between fixed and rotating walls. (auth)
