- Summary
- Time and Tide was launched in 1920 by Lady Rhondda, Mona Chalmers Watson, Elizabeth Robins and Helen Archdale as a weekly review of politics and culture and the only female-produced publication of its kind. Over the following years it became an enthusiastic platform for various feminist movements, frequently aligned with organisations such as the Six Point Group and the Equal Rights Demonstration Committee, the latter of which was also chaired by Lady Rhondda. This feminist focus softened, however, with the passage of the 1928 Representation of the People (Equal Franchise) Act which provided women with equal voting rights; the next few years would see it rebranded for a more general audience. Upon expansion in the 1930s, Time and Tide turned also towards the subjects of foreign policy and international affairs, fields traditionally dominated by men.
