Summary
It was determined that the carbon, oxygen, aluminum, and silicon content of coal samples can be determined fairly accurately by nuclear techniques. These results to date also indicate that it is not feasible to measure sulfur in coal by the particular nuclear means investigated in this study. However, work is continuing in this area and these results do not rule out an order-of-magnitude measurement under field-type conditions. The estimated accuracy with which these elements can be measured is listed. (auth)
