- Summary
- When difficulties were encountered with the control rod drive system at low header cavity temperatures, scram times showed significant increases. Increased friction was only observed under low-temperature (80 deg F) highhumidity conditions in the header cavity after the reactor had been shut down for a long period of time. Disassembly of rod drive components revealed no obvious mechanical reasons for the problem. The reactor was operated to perform several low power physics tests and preparations were made for power operation. Rod scram times were determined periodically during this period and the results were good. The reactor was opreated at powers up to 36.5 Mw(t), and 8.3 Mw(e), for twelve days, including eight days of continuous operation. (auth)
