"As a committee, to whom the above circular has been submitted, we, the subscribers, are prepared to say that we believe its statements to be true. The Rev. Mr. Burton, whose attention as one of the ministers at large has been particularly drawn to the morals of our city, has taken unwearied pains to authenticate the facts on which his affecting appeal is founded. We hope this circular may be the means of calling the attention of the friends of morals and religion to the alarming progress of vice among the young, and may lead them to adopt the wisest and most efficient methods of counteracting and repressing it. J.B. Waterbury, Pastor of Bowdoin-Street Church [and seven others]."--p. 4.
