[i.e., F.] Poole, the editor of the recently published and elaborate Index to periodical literature, having included, in that work,a carefully prepared and thorough index to ... the Historical magazine ... the demand for the magazine, both in the trade and in libraries, will necessarily increase. ..."--p. [2]. Signed: Henry B. Dawson.
Imprint date suggested by reference, on p. [2], to the availability of odd numbers and volumes in the original, new, and third series. The 3rd series of the Historical magazine commenced publication in January 1872.

"P.S.--The 'files' referred to, in the text of the above note, include, in each, ten complete and three unfinished volumes ... They contain all that have been printed of the magazine, since it was enlarged, except the numbers for September and October, 1867, which are out of print; and they include, also, the very rare thin 'Extras,' which are very seldom, elsewhere, procurable. The price of each of those files is twenty-eight dollars--which is less than the original price to subscribers ... Only a very small number of such files remain, unsold; and, as the magazine was not stereotyped, it will not be re-printed."--Accompanying sheet; signed: H.B.D.
