Addressed to Mr. George W. Childs of Philadelphia who published the first volume of Lossing's history in 1866, and who presumably issued this to promote volumes 2 and 3. However, in 1867 Childs relinquished publication and vols. 2-3 were published by T. Belknap at Hartford in 1868.
