A prospectus. Described in Fitzpatrick, T.J. Rafinesque; a sketch of his life with bibliography, 1911, no. 857, as having been issued in about 1836, i.e., for his The American nations; or, Outlines of their general history, Philadelphia, 1836. However, the text is identical with a prospectus published in the Oct. 21, 1826, issue of the Saturday evening post, Philadelphia. Subsequent issues refer to a separately published prospectus being circulated to solicit subscriptions. Cf. Fitzpatrick nos. 475a and 475b.
Apparently an insufficient number of subscriptions were received to encourage publication of the work. However, there exists a manuscript of 146 leaves, held by the Library of Congress, entitled "Outlines of a general history of America by C.S. Rafinesque. Second chronological part ... From 1492 to 1775. Begun in Philadelphia, in October 1827." Cf. Fitzpatrick no. 940.
