- Summary
- "It may appear strange that so long a time (about fifty years) has passed since the first appearance of the lectures comprised in this volume, and that a second edition should only now be brought out. It may be explained in part that the first edition was published by subscription of those who heard the lectures delivered, and so the volumes passed into private libraries and were not put into circulation through booksellers; the present publication is called for by former pupils and devoted admirers of Mr. Kinmont, who desire to preserve this monument of his genius which he himself created.
