Rare Books copy: Bound in half calf with marbled boards. Extensive annotations and marginalia throughout, chiefly in Latin but also some earlier notes in English. Notes are mostly legible but smudged and faded in parts. The notes demonstrate an early scholar engaging with and trying to understand the text, showing seventeenth century thought.Manuscript note on front pastedown: "This book was composed by two or three anchorites of Port Royal, but principally by M. Nicole." Beneath this is an ink stamp: "Ex libris Wilson H. Kimnach." Ownership autograph on front free endpaper: "Henry Watts." Beneath autograph is pencil note: "2 writers of notes (?) English notes earlier." Later leaf of manuscript notes laid in back. - Source of Acquisition
