Actions for REPORT ON CONTINUED EVALUATION AND TESTING OF PRTR FUEL ELEMENT RUPTURE DETECTION SYSTEM AND DEMONSTRATION DATA, APRIL 1, 1962-SEPTEMBER 1, 1962
Improvemente made in the PRTR fuel element rupture detection system are described. The PRTR primary coolant is cycled through Zircaloy process tubes. For each process tube in the upper reactor access a sample tabe is brought out to a hent exchanger. The coolant sample is reduced to 120 deg F and routed to the instrument cell containing the ruptare detection system equipment. This equipment operates on a non-integrating principle where helium containing fission gases is released from the coolant and flows through a hold up chamber for gamma energy detection. Operating experience demonstration data are presented. (M.C.G.)
