The kinetics of polymerization of several polyphenyls and alky- substituted poiyphenyls was investigated. In each case the polymerization rate was found to be proportional to the fraction of the remaining unpolymerized material. A reaction mechanism is proposed for the observed behavior. Rate constants, activation energies, and frequency factors were measured for each compound. (auth)
