Report of a special committee of the Michigan House of Representatives "to whom was referred sundry petitions praying your honorable body to take into consideration the propriety of passing some 'act or acts' relative to the opening of the slat springs of the State and the manufacturing of salt." (Page 1). The committee thinks that the State can and should export rather than import salt. A successful operation in Grand Rapids, commenced by Lucius Lyon in 1842, is mentioned. The report concludes by pointing to two bills on the topic which are before the Senate. The report is signed by Geo. W. Allen, Chairman.
