A method for manufacturing rhombus-shaped Zircaloy rods was developed. Standard rolling mill and Turk's head equipment was used. The final shape of the rhombic rods was very near that of a true rhombus or, more accurately, a parallelogram. The corners across the long diagonal were not sharp but contained a slight radius. The final thickness dimensions varied less than 0.002 in. in a 48-in. length, and after straightening, the rods bowed less than 0.010-in. along a 48-in. length. (M.C.G.)
