Summary
Progress is reported on the decontamination and recovery of precious metals from contaminated scrap. It was confirmed that liquid-liquid solvent extraction not only achieves the desired decontamination, but also produces a product of high purity. The dissolution of Au-PdPt and Pt-Rh alloys and Pt by chlorination in a sodium chloride matrix was studied. Ethyl acetate was used as organic solvent in the solvent extraction studies. A solvent extraction flow sheet was developed. (M.C.G.)
