- The defendant in this case brought a redhibitory action against one Shelton from whom he purchased a female slave named Jane. Jane suffered from an illness that affected her heart and lungs. As a consequence, the defendant sought to recover the value of the slave from Shelton and in the meantime placed Jane in the care of one Screnes. The plaintiff applied to the Supreme Court for an appeal and the appeal was granted.
