The plaintiff here claimed that she was a free woman and wrongfully held in slavery by the defendant. The plaintiff based her claim for freedom on her residing in Ohio for a period with her former owner which is a state in which slavery was not legal. The judge declared the plaintiff to be a free woman in this hearing.
