- Summary:
- Eugenie, who was the slave of Gallien Pre¿¿val, sued for her liberty. Pre¿¿val, his daughter Mrs Faure, and Miss Raynal were the defendants. Unlike Mrs Faure, Pre¿¿val and Miss Raynal disclaimed any ownership of the plaintiff. Having married an officer in the French army, Mrs Faure's (and the servant's) domicile became that of her husband, and consequently she could not hold the plaintiff in slavery in France. Therefore, it was ordered that the judgment appealed from be reversed, that the plaintiff recover her freedom, and that Mrs Faure pay to the plaintiff [dollars] 146 for wages, the costs of this appeal, and those incurred by the plaintiff in the proceedings against the two other defendants.
