Summary
Ambs, owner of Camp Spring, assaulted Goetz with a whip. Goetz had to pay [dollars] 75 in medical treatment over 6 weeks as a result. He had sustained a serious injury to his left eye. He sued for [dollars] 5,000 and the jury gave him the verdict, but only awarded him [dollars] 2,000. Goetz appealed because he wanted a larger sum in damages. The Supreme Court reversed the ruling of the court below and ordered a new trial because it decided that an excessive amount of damages had been awarded.
