- Summary
- Case about an alleged assault with intent to rape a white girl aged 4. The defendant appealed on the grounds that the jury was incorrectly impannelled because Alfred's owner waived the right to have a jury chosen from between 26 and 36 potential jurors, also that the verdict was contrary to law. The Supreme Court decided that the slave owner did have a right to waive the impannelling of the required number of jurors. It felt that, although the evidence was not conclusive, the jury made the decision on the evidence and that the verdict should stand.
