- Summary
- This was an action brought to recover a debt on a bond. The original obligees of this note, Johnson and his surety Long, tried to introduce evidence calling for the debt to be set off against a bill for medical services rendered by Dr James Johnson to the female plaintiff and her slaves, before her marriage. The Superior Court did not allow the physician's evidence on this matter and gave a verdict for the plaintiffs. The defendants appealed and the Supreme Court ordered a new trial to take account of the physician's evidence.
