Summary
Synthesis of the starting material, ethyl hydrotropate2-d, for tritium isotope effect studies is in progress. An analysis of the mechanisms involved in the synthesis is presented. It is noted that this material must be exchanged with ethanol-d(T) to introduce the radioactivity. Work on the mechanism of glycidic acid decarboxylation, a step in the synthesis, is almost complete.
