- Summary
- Fluorite phosphorescence e cited by x radiation at contant temperatures, in the range from - 4.5 to 120 deg C, was observed, The time intesity relationship was found to be representable by a summation of severla components, wach of which decreased exponentially with time at a different rate. The components were separated graphically and the corresponding half life. In every respect observed fluiorite phosphorescence was found to be similat to that of calcit. The single exception was that of absolute intinsity of the emission . Fulorite phosphorexded less that calcite by a factor in the oprder of magnitude of 100. the electron trap depth districtuion was found to be very nearly the same for the two crystals. the relationship between temperature and tiem duration of tests previously noted for calcite wa strue for fluorite. An anomolus behavior was observed in flourtie phosphorescence wihc suggeste dpossible movement of an inter-related gorup of electron trap sites. It is suggested that an extension of this obser ation of fluorite through a greater temperature range would better indicate the nature of the trap depth distribution and any differences from that of calcite that might exist.
