Summary
Seven ferroin type compounds were examined on the Mossbauer velocity spectrometer in an effort to correlate the isomer shift with the degree of covalency. Fairly narrow doublets centered at 0.3 to 0.5 mm/sec were characteristic of the phenanthroline complexes in the form of their perchlorate salts. A magnetically modulated 14-kev gamma ray source and synchronous detector were constructed for studying some of the parameters of the proposed scheme of modulated gamma ray detection. Successful operation was demonstrated at a modulation frequency of 3 cps. Schematics of the equipment and discussion of results are included. (D.C.W.)
