The design of a large-aperture magnetic spectrometer employing spark chambers coupled with a large bending magnet is described. Its advantages in meson ( pi )-nucleon interaction studies are listed. A schematic view is given of a system constructed to analyze final-state particles from pi /sup plus or minus /-p interactions at 2 to 5 Bev/c. Operation of the spectrometer is discussed. (M.C.G.)
