Katherine Salisbury and George Friedman lead New York-based Qapital Invest LLC (Qapital), which offers a personal finance mobile application for Apple's iOS and Google's Android-based smartphone users. The Qapital app leverages a gamification approach developed by a behavioral science professor from Duke University and helps users develop positive financial behavior. The app motivates users to save money by controlling their spending behavior. Qapital encourages users to set savings goals and uses gamification rules to transfer money from a checking account to a savings account when a rule established in the app is met. By 2021, Qapital received over 78,000 five-star ratings in Apple's App Store and Google Play and was named the "Most Innovative App" by Google and Apple.
