- Summary
- An investigation was made of the activities induced in the surface of the earth near ground zero by nuclear-explosion released neutrons. Gamma radiation from test site soil obtained from ground zero following air bursts, tower shots, and underground explosions were studied. It is concluded that the quantities of neutron-induced aetivity to fissionfallout activity are functions of height, yield, and type of detonation. Na/sup 24/ and Mn/sup 56/ activities found in blastexposed soils were activated in proportion to the amount of Na and Mn atoms present at irradiation time. (J.R.D.)
