- "Nan" Moone Currington was born in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania in 1916. She was a Black educator, musician, and social worker. In 1942, Currington earned a Bachelor of Science in education from the historically Black college Cheyney University before moving on to her graduate degree. While at Cheyney, she was active in the Black sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha and sang in the choir. That is where she met her future husband, Robert Currington, the choir's piano accompanist. Following her graduation from Cheney, Moone earned her master's degree in education, guidance, and administration from Bucknell University. After college, Currington worked at the Navy testing site in Munhall, Pennsylvania and as a social worker for the state Department of Welfare. From 1950 to 1981, Currington worked in the Pittsburgh school system in multiple capacities: teaching home economics, serving as an activities' director, counselor female students, and serving as a vice-principal in Pittsburgh at three different high schools. In keeping with her musical upbringing, Currington formed Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church's Young People's Choir, serving as director for three decades. Robert Currington was an educator and World War II veteran. He attended Cheyney University in Pennsylvania before serving in WWII. He was the Warrant Officer, Junior Grade, for the 277th Quartermaster Battalion in both the European and Pacific theaters. Following his service, he worked as a classroom educator and an administrator in the Pittsburgh public school system. Like his wife, he was heavily involved in the Grace Memorial Presbyterian Church in different capacities, including member, trustee, Deacon, and former treasurer. Currington was married to his wife, Nan Currington nee Moone, for 64 years at the time of his death. This biographical information was taken from the dealer description provided by James E. Arsenault & Company and from Robert Currington's obituary.
