- Summary
- I. "The German Athanaeum Ltd. are invoking the aid of the English Law to forcibly eject the Services Club, and as a protest against such action by a Company so constituted any attempt at entering these premises of the German Athenaeum Ltd. will be resisted." The German Athanaeum. A sign bearing this message (and much more) is hoisted into position outside the German Athenaeum in Stratford Place. Outside, Charles Palmer, the editor of the Globe newspaper, addresses a crowd of men gathered in the rain. II. "London Husbands' Protest. Passing the resolution at the protest meeting of attested married men in Hyde Park." Another 'Single Men First' meeting. Shots of a sea of faces listening to speakers (although neither the speakers, nor much of the park itself, are visible). The men raise hands (and hats) in response to speaker's resolution. III. "Irish Soldiers at Mass. The service was held at Westminster Cathedral for Irish soldiers who had fallen in the war." Irish soldiers attend memorial service at Westminster Cathedral. A company of Irish soldiers (plus some Australians ?) march along street. They enter the Cathedral. (The service itself is not shown.) IV. "Damage by Zeppelin at Salonika. British soldiers operating a primitive Greek fire pump in their efforts to quench the flames at the Ottoman Bank." Bomb damage in Salonika. British sailors and soldiers furiously pump away at the handles of an extremely antiquated pump. Poor quality long shot of the building smouldering away. V. "Bombs on the Greeks: The Zeppelin drops on the Greek section of the city. Several Greek subjects were the only victims. Big hole in the street caused by a bomb." More damage in Salonika. Further footage of the damage in Greece. Shots of soldiers and sailors repair tramlines and clear streets. Men investigate an enormous hole in the middle of a street caused by a bomb from a Zeppelin.
