Finite element methods have been used to calculate internal stresses within a spherical particle and discontinuous fiber composite. The internal stresses have been analyzed as a function of interparticle spacing and the elastic constants have been calculated from a knowledge of these stresses. The effect of altering the interface properties has been stimulated by assigning different properties to the finite elements forming the boundary of the interface.
