- This collection consists of microfilmed correspondence of John Brophy (1883-1963), National Director for the Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) and Director of Industrial Union Councils, CIO. It includes: financial reports; rules, constitutions and bylaws; charter applications; meeting minutes; and letters of appeal and resolution issued by the various Industrial Union Councils throughout Pennsylvania. Six photographic prints illustrate Pennsylvania Industrial Union Council convention meetings (1939 (two photos), 1943, 1955, 1957) and the 1938 Pennsylvania Federation of Labor Reorganization Convention.

- The Congress of Industrial Organizations (CIO) organized Industrial Union Councils at the local level to coordinate union activism. John Brophy (1883-1963) was District 2 president of the United Mine Workers of America (UWMA) and a key leader within the CIO.
