- Summary
- Many people experience a connection between their Christian faith and their desire to serve in their community through long-term and short-term projects, ranging from overseas mission trips to recurrent service to animal shelters. Through my interdisciplinary project, I created a literature review exploring the current research related to the topics of faith and community service, which especially used my English scholarly background and research skills. The majority of my project centered around journalistic features that showcased the perspectives and experiences of 27 sources. Following journalistic standards, I conducted in-depth interviews that helped explore people's unique and individual stories about their faith and volunteerism experiences. While writing the feature, which draws on longform journalistic writing principles, I connected my sources together into five individual section as well as an introduction and conclusion according to similar themes. The five themes included education, youth and family resources, animal and human support, mission work, and organizational involvement.
