Summary
Examines the various shapes taken by a beach in order to dissipate wave energy. Compares two beaches -- a fairly steep one with a mixture of sand and shingle, and half a mile away, a flat and sandy one. Field measurement and laboratory demonstration show how wave type and sediment variability cause changes in the beach profile.
