- Summary
- Vapor-liquid equilibria in the NH/sub 3/-CO/sub 2/-H/sub 2/S-H/sub 2/O system are discussed. Solubilities of various gases in hydrocarbon liquids are presented as a function of pressure along isotherms. Particle density and porosity of coals and chars are discussed, and the size consists of coal shipped from various mines are given. Pyrolysis of coal is reviewed, and the fate of trace elements in coal in conversion processes is discussed. Design charts are presented for gasification of char in a fluidized bed with steam and air at 1 atmosphere and temperatures of 1750, 1800, 1850, or 1900/sup 0/F, at various steam-to-carbon feed ratios. Various approaches for evaluating solids mixing in fluidized beds are reviewed. Some of the published correlations for estimating initial bubble diameter are evaluated. Bed expansion correlations based on two-phase theory and various bubble-growth correlations are derived and evaluated by comparison with experimental data. Two-phase, fluid-particle systems are described in the form of a phase diagram. Various correlations for estimating choking velocity are evaluated, and a generalized correlation is recommended, which is applicable at both low (atmospheric) and high pressures. Pressure-drop correlations in vertical lean-phase solids transport are reviewed and data relevant to coal conversion processes are compiled. Federal environmental regulations, as well as those for Illinois and New Mexico, are discussed and various stack-gas cleaning processes are described. The experience with materials of construction for reactor internals and slurry pumps in the HYGAS pilot plant is described.
