A new method of easily and quickly determining the percent alumina in ceramic bases is presented. This new technique fuses the ceramic into a glass pellet with lithium tetraborate, then measures the impurity concentrations using x-ray-emission spectroscopy. This new method requires only eight hours to complete, as compared with 60 hours for the wet chemical technique of ASTM-C-573. (auth)
