- Summary
- Declassified 29 Mar 1973. The Thermionic Engineering Mockup test was scheduled. The temperature distribution along the capsule vent tube has been calculated and the results used to perform aging studies of the welded joint between the tungsten vent tube and the stainless steel expansion coil that leads into the helium reservoir. Tests arc in progress to evaluate the compatibility of Ni, Ni--10% Cr, Ni--20% Cr, Co--10% Cr, Hastelloy C, Hastelloy N, and Haynes alloy No. 25 with ic and Brayton-cycle applications. The temperature range of the thermal conductivity data on Cm/sub 2/O/sub 3/ has been extended from 536 to 1081 deg C. Silicon dioxide was added to SrO during its processing to ensure a hot-pressed pellet of high density. The role of silicon in capsule materials will be studied with respect to compatibility effects. The creep rates of Alloys S-5 (Fe/sub 3/Pt) and S-6 (CoPt) are being measured as a function of temperature and constant stress, and the effects of long-range order on the creep behavior of Co--Ni--V alloys are being determined. The fourth SNAP-21 source was loaded and shipped. (auth)
