- Summary
- The National Organization for Women (NOW), was organized by women to promote equal rights for all women. On May 7, 1969, a group of 100 women, sponsored by NOW, demonstrated in Washington, D.C. outside the White House. The group was demonstrating in support of the "Freedom for Women Week." The organization also furthered their efforts by meeting with Member of Congress and representatives of Government agencies. NOW continued to demonstrate for their cause through the mid 1970's and grew to have organizations in most states.
