- Summary
- The SAREF conceptual design may be required to be completed in metric units. In an effort to determine the impact of this requirement on Bechtel, several potential problem areas were investigated: drafting experience in metric units; engineering experience in metric units; availability of training support for project personnel in the use of metric units; and present status of US engineering standards in metric units. In addition, considering both the conceptual design phase and the detailed design and construction phase beyond, Bechtel's Procurement Service was requested to determine if pipes, valves and pumps (both nuclear and non-nuclear) were readily available in standard metric sizes from US suppliers. Finally, both the construction and quality assurance groups in the San Francisco Power Division were requested to evaluate the impact of the metric system in their areas.
