- Summary
- Oxides are used as dispersion hardening agents in alloys. Purpose of this work was to examine several candidate oxides for compatibility with the goal of reducing the activation of fusion reactor materials to meet shallow burial criteria. The activation of MgO, BeO, Y2O3, Al2O3, and CaO was estimated for a 10 MW-y/m2 irradiation at a STARFIRE first wall position. At the concentrations used for dispersion hardening, none of the oxides would, in themselves, cause an alloy to exceed shallow burial limits.
