We have successfully made a cathode with a sensitivity of 0.3 mA/W at lambda = 1.06..mu.. with the processing method given above. There are a variety of methods for manufacturing Ag-O-Cs photocathodes. We have found the method detailed in Section 3.0 adequate for our needs. We have found that some skill must be acquired in cesiating if this method is to produce high IR sensitive photocathodes. The ability to distinguish thermionic, photo, and leakage currents apart is perhaps the most crucial factor in evolving the stoichiometric amount of cesium. Excess amounts of cesium cannot be tolerated in the Ag-O-Cs structure as they can in the case of some bi-alkalai cathodes.
