A strong catalytic effect on the SO2 absorption rate by Fe2O3 coated on dolomite (Tymochtee) has been established. A small amount of Fe2O3 coating (of the order of 1%) can increase the SO2 absorption rate by 60%. The coating procedure is rather simple and readily applicable, e.g., it can be done by spraying the uncalcined sorbent with an iron salt solution before feeding to the fluidized-bed combustor.
