Summary
It is shown that the transition matrix for elastic and inelastic medium energy protons scattered from nuclei described by the interacting boson model is the SU/sub 6/ group representation matrix. Closed form expressions for this transition matrix are derived for the special cases of a vibrational nucleus, a ..gamma..-unstable rotor nucleus, and an axially symmetric rotor nucleus.
